State Deputy Remarks
Well the 124th Supreme Convention
is behind us and now it is time to begin the work of the Order and the State. I
would like to thank all of those Knights and their families that joined us in
Orlando this year and formed the Alabama delegation. It was one of the largest
that I remember and spoke well for our Order and the State of Alabama. The
delegation consisted of Bryant Collins, PSD (he really likes me to accent the
Past part of that title) and his wife Vita, Maurice Dupont, State Secretary and
his wife Penny, Ray Carney, State Treasurer and is wife Janie, Steve Koach,
State Advocate and his wife Marie, Pete Parrish, State Warden and his wife Tasha
and myself Eddie Lipscomb, State Deputy and my wife Patricia. Also joining us
was Father David Buchanan of Jasper, Antonio Campos Uribe from Mexico, John
Bares, PGK and Joe Flaherty, GK (Joe in typical Knight fashion recruited a
member for Florida one night at supper) from council # 13152 Fort Payne, Norman
and Marta Gale from council #11366 in Mobile and Mike Miller, GK and his wife
Tina from council #12765 in Robertsdale. Many thanks to all who attended; you
made this Convention very special.
When Father McGivney began the
Order over 124 years ago, his vision was a Knights of Columbus council in every
parish. Our mission as Knights of Columbus is to see that his vision is made a
reality. Pope John Paul II said, “In fidelity to the vision of Father
McGivney, may you continue to seek new ways of being a leaven of the Gospel in
the world and a spiritual force for the renewal of the Church in holiness,
unity, and truth.” We can accomplish this by insuring that there is an
active Knight of Columbus presence in every council, either by an active council
or by a Parish Roundtable. We are also morally obligated to offer the
opportunity to every qualified Catholic male to join our Order and thus to join
us in the defense of Church and State that has been the hallmark of Knights
since our inception.
This year I would like our mission
to also include a rededication of the Knights of Columbus in the State of
Alabama to Our Blessed Mother and to her Rosary. We promised once to carry the
Rosary of Mary with us and to pray it often; I ask that you once again make this
promise, for with Our Blessed Mother by our side there is noting that we can’t
accomplish.

Vivat Jesus
