Pro-Life Report
There are many
aspects of the pro-life movement which could be addressed in this newsletter. I
am sure there are also many pro-life activities in the councils around the state
which could be applauded. However, one activity has come to my attention of
which I would like everyone to be aware. Bry Shields is 22 years old, a student
at UAB, DGK of St. Pauls council 9862, and a member of “Students for Life” at
UAB. He and fellow members of “Students for Life” are planning a trip, for
about 10 students, to Washington for 1/22, the 33rd
anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Today we all are preoccupied by the date 9/11, and
with good reason. As horrible as that day was with its loss of innocent lives,
how much more horrible is the assault on innocent life from within, that gained
such momentum 33 years ago on 1/22 with the legalization of abortion. How many
millions have died as a result of abortions since that day? Bry and his fellow
students hope to bring attention to this tragedy to our lawmakers in Washington
this January. That is not all his group is doing. They are actively trying to
establish a “Cemetery for the Innocent” at UAB and they attend monthly “Walks
for Life” downtown. Bry and others want to learn to be “sidewalk counselors”
outside abortion mills, and they are trying to bring the “Genocide Awareness
Project” to the UAB Campus. The “Students for Life” need help to raise the money
to go to Washington and for their other projects. The cost of sending one
student to Washington is $264. If any council or knight would like to help with
these worthy projects they can send donations to “Students for Life”, 1521 17th
St. S. Apt 17, Birmingham, AL 35205. Bry can be reached at 251-753-0911, if you
have questions. Remember that most women facing the question of an abortion are
young women and Bry’s group can be very effective in reaching them because they
are peers. It is not a different generation out of touch with them trying to
tell them what to do. Please support Bry, a fellow Knight, a Christian, and a
true soldier in the fight to protect innocent life.
Finally a note on
something each one of us can do to get the Pro-Life message out, use Pro-Life
checks. There is at least one company that prints Pro-Life checks. They are
regular bank checks but with each check imprinted with a Pro-Life message. Each
time you write a check it is seen by about 16 people before the cancelled check
is returned to you. This is a simple low cost and effective way to get the
Pro-Life message out. The web site of the company is
www.lifechecks.com. Please check them
out.
Finally, to all
Grand Knights and/or Pro-Life chairmen. I have nomination forms for “Pro-Life
Couple of the Year” available. Please send me a request for the forms to
frankjohnson_1@bellsouth.net
and I will get them to you. Please also send any pro-life activities within your
council that you would like reported in this newsletter to the same address.
Continue to Pray
for a greater respect for all life!
Fraternally,
Frank Y. Johnson
